Help Madge Walk Again After Medical Tragedy

$0.00
Pay with PayPal or a debit/credit card

(Shhhh - this is a SURPRISE!) Madge Rich went into the hospital for back surgery. Before the procedure, she clearly warned the medical team that she was extremely sensitive to pain medication. After surgery, she was given maximum doses anyway. She stopped breathing. When they revived her, everything had changed. She was left with a rare neurological condition called Lance-Adams syndrome—a disorder that causes severe, uncontrollable shaking and spasms whenever she tries to move or even touch something. Now, everyday tasks like standing, walking, or reaching for support can trigger intense tremors. She has already suffered multiple falls and concussions. Her independence was taken in a matter of minutes.

After exhausting medications and therapies, there is one procedure that could significantly reduce her symptoms and give her a real chance to walk again. This procedure is commonly used for Parkinson’s patients—but in her case, insurance has denied coverage. The cost to move forward is overwhelming and requires a significant ($200,000) upfront payment, and we need help to give Madge a chance to regain her independence and live without constant fear of falling.

We have appealed. We have searched for other options. We have tried to find another path. But we are not ready to accept that this is the end of her story. She deserves the chance to walk safely again. She deserves to live without constant fear of falling. She deserves a second chance. We are asking for your help and support to make this possible.

How Funds Will Be Handled

To ensure transparency and proper use of funds:

- Donations from this campaign will be transferred to and managed by our family’s nonprofit, Save the Day Society

- Funds will be used exclusively for her medical procedure and directly related expenses

- Payments will be made directly to medical providers and necessary care

- We are committed to sharing updates and progress along the way.

How You Can Help

- Donate any amount — every contribution truly makes a difference

- Share this campaign with others

- Leave a message of encouragement — we will share them with her

If we are able to make this procedure possible, we will share the moment she realizes she has a chance to walk again. We believe in the power of people coming together. Thank you for being part of her story!

MY grandmother, my inspiration

"In her own life, she felt women in Pakistan really were backward and suppressed "

my grandmother's vision

The Save the Day Society is the continuation of a vision that began in the mid-1900s. Adrian's grandmother, Meherunnisa Meher Begum (who goes by "Meher") was a poet and women's rights activist in the 1960s, and became well-known for her aggressive stance on equality and unity for all.

In today's world, we believe that the creative, intuitive power of women and their leadership are our most readily available, under-utilized resources. As more women (and young women) become trained and empowered for leadership, the more balanced, effective, and unified our families, communities, and schools can become.

Her name represents our combined spirits in this effort: Meher = Me & Her. Read more about the article below.

about the meher article

Stay tuned for stories about Meher, her life, her influence, and how we want to continue her vision.

The article will be available for viewing and download soon, but here are some highlights:

- 1972: Awarded the Gold Medal by the Shah of Iran.

- A member of the exclusive Writers Guild of Pakistan.

- 1964: Given the title "Most Famous Poetess in India".

- Met with Indira Ghandi.

- Author of 7 novels, 112 articles, and 255 poems.

- Kept her maiden name in Pakistan in the 1940's, even on her passport. Hers was an arranged marriage. Huge power move, I love it!

- Felt that "something was wrong with the system". How right she was.

- Wanted to be an example of what women could do.

- Made sure all 10 of her children were educated.

- 3 of her books were used in schools.

- Felt that "Many were not ready for her ideas". We're READY NOW.

Making The Most Of IT

Madge's Story...

Madge suffers from Lance Adams Syndrome which is a movement disorder as a result from lack of oxygen in the brain when she was overdosed at a hospital after surgery with pain meds. When her body touches anything it will shake and spasm making regular tasks impossible or dangerous.

Previously, Madge was very active in her garden, went to the gym regularly, and actively involved in many church and community events. This accident has greatly impacted her mobility and her physical safety. She requires special care and is dependent on her wheelchair to get around.

The Save the Day Society donated $300 for her to get brand new loveseat recliner allowing her and her husband, Doug, to better get up off of the couch, and to comfortably recline. Thanks to Astegos Community Warehouse for the special price reduction to make it possible!

One our values is to help people help themselves as much as possible. Click the button "Support Madge" to see the website we created to help Madge support herself!

How you can help

Madge loves to crochet and has been for for the last 70 years! We have created a website where Madge can now sell her creations to help support their bills and living. Please take a look and consider purchasing her beautiful hand crocheted products!
